Overseas Cleliamar Loses Control Outside the Golden Gate

On January 29, 2009, a 741-foot tanker, lost both power and steering just outside the Golden Gate. Thanks to quick action by tugs, the tanker was just barely kept off the rocks. In the animation below, you can see the ship lose control and drift out of the channel. The tug Z Four, headed into the bay, reverses course and arrives quickly on the scene. Shortly thereafter the ship is swarmed with tugs and Coast Guard ships.
